Referral & Entry Criteria

The Registry accepts referral of families both from the healthcare profession and from the families themselves throughout the whole territory of Hong Kong satisfying one of the following criteria:

  1. Families affected by histologically proven Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) or other polyposis syndromes. This includes index patients and at-risk first-degree relatives above the age of 12 years.
  2. Families affected by Lynch Syndrome (LS; previously called Hereditary Non-Polyposis Colorectal Cancer [HNPCC]) satisfying the Amsterdam criteria/modified Amsterdam criteria and/or with proven mismatch repair gene mutation. This includes index patients and at-risk first-degree relatives above the age of 25 years.
  3. Families suspected of hereditary predisposition satisfying one of the following criteria:
    • One first-degree family member has histological proven colorectal cancer diagnosed before the age of 45 years ;
    • Two first-degree family members have histologically proven colorectal cancers and at least one of the cancers was diagnosed before the age of 45 years;
    • One first-degree family member has histological proven colorectal cancer and another first-degree family member has histological proven colorectal cancer or LS-related extra-colonic cancers (one of the cancers diagnosed before the age of 45 years);
    This includes index patients and at-risk first-degree relatives above an age 5 years younger than the youngest age at cancer diagnosis in the family.

N.B.: First-degree relative means parents, siblings and children.
